Cabo San Lucas- An Incredible Trip

Flying from LAX to Cabo is super easy, about a 2.5 hour flight, which makes it one of the best quick getaway destinations from Southern California. We went right after Christmas, and the timing couldn’t have been better. The weather was perfect, sunny, warm, and not too humid. It felt like the ideal reset.

We stayed at Grand Velas Los Cabos, and honestly, this was easily the best resort and hotel experience I’ve had. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. Every detail felt intentional, and the staff went out of their way to make everything seamless. It’s one of those places where you don’t have to think about anything since they’ve already taken care of it.

One of the biggest strengths of Grand Velas is the food. Every restaurant felt like a full experience, not just a resort add-on. At each restaurant, the manager was always available to discuss allergen safety and I have never felt more comfortable eating out during traveling than on this trip.

  • Amat Café – This was our go-to casual spot. Great for coffee, desserts, and quick bites throughout the day. I was especially impressed that many of the options were peanut-free, which made it a really easy and safe choice.
  • Azul (Breakfast) – This is where we had breakfast most mornings. Huge variety, fresh options, and a really relaxed start to the day. It’s buffet-style but feels high quality.
  • Velas 10 – A steakhouse right on the beach. Great atmosphere at night, and the food matched it. Definitely one of the more classic “nice dinner” spots on the property.
  • Frida – Traditional Mexican cuisine done in a more elevated way. Rich flavors, great presentation, and probably one of the most authentic-feeling meals at the resort.
  • Lucca – Italian restaurant with a more formal feel. Everything was well executed, and it’s a great option if you want something different from Mexican food.
  • Cabrilla – Seafood-focused and lighter overall. Perfect for lunch or dinner if you want something fresh with great views.
  • Mexican Kermesse – This was a really fun experience. It’s more of an event than a meal, with local street-style food, music, and a lively atmosphere. It added a nice cultural touch to the trip.

What really sets Grand Velas apart is the attention to detail. Whether it was the service, the food, or just how smoothly everything ran, it consistently felt a step above. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the guest experience.

Between the short flight, perfect weather, and the quality of the resort, this trip was about as good as it gets.

Highly recommend.
